absolute calibration - method relating detector response to sample concentration in order to perform quantitative analysis. Standard solutions of a sample to be quantitated are prepared and equal volumes chromatographed. Peak heights or peak areas are plotted versus concentrations to produce a calibration curve.

absolute retention time - the time elapsed between the sample injection and the appearance of the peak maximum.

adsorbent - rigid, highly dispersive or porous substance (porous particles) providing surface forces to the media contacted with its surface (gas or liquid). Result of the surface interactions is the accumulation of some components at the surface region.
